Manipal: WGSHA celebrates International Chefs Day

Manipal, 21 October 2017: Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration and Department of Culinary Arts celebrated International Chef's Day here on Friday by acclaiming the works of some of the top chefs for their invaluable contribution to the industry. Also, competitions were held for different courses and the students were tested on practical work and were provided a platform to showcase their talent and creativity in culinary field.

 

 

The first year students were tested in the fields of Indian cuisine, basic bakery and pastry, and the Culinary Skills Foundation. The second year students were tested on advanced baking techniques, Pan Asian techniques, and contemporary European cuisine.

 

The day began with an assembly of all the upcoming chefs and faculty at the new Culinary Arts building. The students took the oath administered by vice principal, Chef K. Thiru. They pledged to pursue their careers with honesty and integrity. Principal, Prof Parvadhavardhini addressed the gathering with advice to the budding chefs. Faculty members too spoke on the occasion.

 

The theme for this year’s International Chef Day is, "Foods for Healthy Heroes". The importance of eating healthy and being respectful of the food one prepares and consumes is of utmost importance, and where better than to start from the grass root levels by instructing the youngest upcoming chef of this industry so that it can be cemented in their minds that they need to put to good use their culinary skill in a manner that is innovative, dynamic as well as healthy.
