Manipal, 09 September 2017: In keeping with the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal organized Teacher’s Day differently here at the Sir MV Seminar Hall on Tuesday. While a number of teachers both past and present were honored and even Brig Dr SS Pabla, a former Director MIT and Pro Vice Chancellor, Manipal University was felicitated. Presently, president of Bharatiya Skill Development Campus (BSDC), Jaipur, Brig Pabla was also the chief guest for the function.

In his address he spoke about the wonderful time he had as director of MIT and how he was able to take the institute to a higher level with support from all quarters. And congratulated everyone for making MIT what it is today. He urged the teachers to continue doing the good work to take it to higher levels. He said, “Barring IITs, this is the best engineering institution in the country where about 50 per cent of the faculty members have PhD and a lot many are in the process of completing it”.

Pro Chancellor, Dr H.S. Ballal speaking on the occasion had a word of advice for the teachers. He said, “As teachers we should work like role models and set examples for students to follow”. He then said that there were three types of people in this world -- one who preaches all the time, the other who preaches but never practices what he preaches and finally, there are those who preach and practice what he preaches. “Be the last kind,” was his advice on this Teacher’s Day.

Dr G.K. Prabhu, Director MIT and Pro Vice Chancellor, Manipal University welcomed the gathering and also gave a brief of the institute and the progress it has made over the years. He said, “Today a large number of engineering colleges in the country are finding it difficult to fill the seats, here at MIT it is difficult to get a seat”.
