MAHE women finish runners at A-I Varsity Squash Tourney

Manipal, 19 October 2018: The women’s team of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal came up with the best-ever performance at the all-Indian Inter-University Squash Racket Tournament which concluded at Manipal University Jaipur on Thursday. They went down fighting to University of Madras 2-3 to finish runners-up. Last year, the team was placed fourth.



The men’s team lost in the quarter-finals to Mumbai University 1-3 after having scored comfortable victories over Gurunanakdev University, Amritsar 3-0 and Gurukul University 3-1 in the earlier rounds.


MAHE women gave exceedingly good display. In the final they were up against state and Indian Squash Academy players who were representing University of Madras. “To win two matches against them is creditable,” said manager of the teams Dr Shridhar H, director sports MAHE. He added, “It was a remarkable achievement to reach the final and then to pull back two matches against top players who represent the state at the nationals, was even more creditable”.


“Sukretha Panigrah (MIT, Manipal), Shuchi Abhishek (KMC, Manipal) and Anika Singh (KMC, Mangalore) played really well,” Dr Shridhar said. Other members of the team were, Preeti Shetty (SOAHS, Manoipal) Shriya Ravi Verma (MCODS, Manipal) and Muskaan Arora (KMC, Mangalore).


The men’s team comprised, Soumik Banerjee (MIT), Taksh S Bhojwani (WGSHA, Manipal), Roshan S Bhojwani (FOA, Manipal), Mayank Shete (MIT), Anirudh Sarda (MCODS, Manipal) and Ashwin K.P. (KMC, Manipal).
