Shirva, 21 November 2012: When we review the ancient Indian history it says that in Nalanda, Thakshashila there were huge libraries. The literatures of these have been translated into various languages and have inspired the sculpture artists. The literatures such as Ramayana, Mahabharatha, Bhagavathgeeta have been inspiring and are the resource for the visitors around the world, said Kaup MLA Lalaji R. Mendon.
He was speaking in the concluding ceremony of the week long ‘National Library Week – 2012’ at Shirva Hindu Higher Primary School, organized jointly by Public Library, District Central Library Udupi and Shirva Grama Panchayath. MLA also felicitated Ms Ammi - Librarian of Shirva Public Library.
Speaking of the occasion Teacher B. Pundalika Marathe said that the scriptures are inspiring for a good living. We must make the habit of purchasing the books and news papers and read them. With a low cost the books gives the maximum entertainment, happiness, satisfaction, excitement and also the values of life. Having a mini library at every home we can encourage reading habit among the children, he said.
The program was presided over by Zilla Panchayath Member Ida Gibba D’Souza. On the dias Taluk Panchayath Member K. Krishna Poojary, St Mary’s High School Headmaster Devendra Nayak, District Main Library Officer Divakar, Ganesh Mattar, Shirva Rotary Prfesident Mathias Lobo, Shirva Lions Club Vice President Stany D’Souza and Panchayath Development Officer Malati were present.
K.R. Patkar compeered the program. K. Srinivasa Rao coordinated. Baburaya Acharya proposed vote of thanks. On the occasion of the week long program Udupi south zone Education Officr Vasanth Shetty, popular Comedy Poet Kodi Ramananda Kamath Kundapura, Vasanthi Shetty Brahmavara, A.S.N. Hebbar Kundapura kept the audience laughing with springs of their jokes.
