Manipal: National workshop on Solar & Wind Energy at MIT

Manipal, 29 July 2017: “Solar applications are expected to reach all households and Industry in the not-too-distant future, but the challenge is to increase its efficiency,” said Mr. Chandra Mauli Kumar, Additional General Manager, Tata Power Solar, Bengaluru after inaugurating the National Workshop on Solar and Wind Energy, organised by the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering on July 21-22, 2017.



The workshop was held as part of Diamond jubilee celebrations of Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal. Dr. Shashishekar Adiga, Senior Principal Engineer, Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, Bengaluru who was the Guest of honour explained how in future a single energy device will meet the energy requirements for various applications similar to mobile replacing other products like calculator, music devices, camera etc.


Dr. G K Prabhu, Pro Vice Chancellor (Technology & Management), Manipal University & Director MIT, said that MIT had already implemented solar power applications at few major buildings of MIT. Dr. B H V Pai, Joint Director, MIT stressed on the need to go for renewable energy mainly considering environmental factors. Dr. K Jagannath, Head of the Department of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, welcomed the gathering and Dr. Y Shrihari Upadhyaya, Convener of Workshop provided overview about the workshop. Prof. Dlifa J Noronha was the master of ceremony for the inaugural function.


More than 100 delegates from various industries and institutes participated in this workshop. Workshop included lecture sessions of resource persons from industry, institutes and practical demonstrations at the Renewable Energy Center of MIT.
